Groutless Tile

A tile setter is trying to tell my brother that installing porcelain tile without grout, is acceptable. I'm a designer and have never heard of such a thing, but I don't claim to know it all, either. Am I the one behind the times, and if not, what is the standard grout width for porcelain tile, on floor and in shower?

You need grout. What does he think is going to happen with the water and mold in the shower? If you want a tight joint you use unsanded grout. You can use any size joint you want. I have seen 1/16 to 1/4 inch joints. I think it depends on the tile size and personal preference. Are you sure you hired a tile setter, not a handyman or "jack of all trades"? I think you should get a few more opinions and look for a new installer.

That wasn't a "tile setter", that's a guy that has set tile.

Tell him to show him the door, and he should find an experience licensed tile setter.
