Should the tile glazing extend down the sides of the tile.

Many of them do. You're having trouble with them right? Maybe you're trying to use spacers and the run off glaze is giving you problems. Most pros do not use spacers if that's the problem. Please elaborate on your question.

If you are looking for fault in the tile because the glazing does not cover the sides, there is no fault. That's the way they are made.

An excess bead or bulb of glaze on the side of a tile can foul the spacing slightly if spacers are being used, no big deal.

The main issue with such a situation is that with a soft bisque wall tile moisture from the grout will be quickly absorbed where there is no glaze and not absorbed where there is glaze. This could result in mottling of the grout when it cures due to creating a variance in drying times.grin
