Adding Mexican tiles to stucco firepit

Greetings,

I am building a fire ring in my yard and have finished the base coat of stucco over the bricks, which is drying now.

I am hoping to sink several Mexican tiles into the final stucco application once the base coat is set. Please see photo for roughly what I HOPE the final project will look like. I will be adding some color to the final stucco mix so it won't be quite the color it is in the photo now.

So the questions are:

Can I sink the tiles right into the final coat of stucco while it's still wet?

If I sink the tiles directly into the wet stucco, will the drying stucco cause the tiles to crack / break?

Will the stucco itself hold the tiles in place?

I asked around a few places and no one seemed to know the answers to these questions so any help would be greatly appreciated.
