We are remodeling a kitchen. We removed the lin only to find another layer of 12x12 squares under it. If we remove that were afaid that the floor will be to thin. If we put the backerboard it is to thick for the thresholds of the doors. The waffle board is thinner. Is it OK to put waffle board down over the tiles or would it be better to us the backerboard. We have heard that with the waffleboard you can not us the premixed thin set, is this true?

By "waffleboard" I assume you are referring to Schluter DITRA (the orange stuff)?

Contact Schluter for their recommendations for the use of DITRA over vinyl tile.

I'm confused what you mean Holly. You say "waffle", but do you mean "Wafer" instead?

Ditra has a waffle-like look, but I'd think you would have called it Ditra, and it is not a board. Sometimes OSB is called wafer-board. Please xplain.
