We are in a situation where we need to tile over wood parkay flooring. The existing flooring has been glued down and has been there for a very long time. It can not be removed because it tears up the subfloor and we can't put down 1/4" cement board because of a height issue. So what can we use to glue the tile down without having it come off and grout cracking?

You're asking the pros how to do it, but you are insisting on how it is to be done. All wrong I might add.

You say the parquet can not be removed. Wrong, yes it can.

You say you can't install 1/4" backer board. Yes you have too, or use Ditra instead. Only adds 1/8" total, instead of a little over 1/4" for the backer.

You say you want the job to be done right. Then do it right. Start ripping the parquet.

"Need to" or just simply want to so as to avoid a little extra labor? Parkay should never be tiled over.

Has nothing to do with anything.grin

What are the height issues, exactly?

So what can we use to glue the tile down without having it come off and grout cracking?

No way that tile floor should be installed the way you propose to do it.grin

This is why tile is expensive. The pros do it right, don't skip steps and it lasts fifty plus years.
