I saw a closed post on this but didn't get to add comments. Always use a morter basecoat under concrete to bond it to the subfloor and fill up any gaps or pockets. When screwing concrete board to subfloors use 1-1/4" concrete board screws specially made for this application. Hammer the screws into the board to get a good start and screwing them in is alot easier. Use a 1/2" electric drill for added umph and the screw heads will come out flat. If not, don't worry because when you morter and lay the tile it will cover the screw. Leave a 1/8" gap between for sheets for mesh tape and mortering the joints. The tiles should float or bed into the morter and not be pressed to the backer. Complete by grouting the tile joints and you're done.
