Remove the vinyl and any 1/4" underlayment that might be there if a wood subfloor. |

Grace let me be clear on this. You can take RD's advice and remove the vinyl before you install tile, or you can take John K's advice and read deeper into this forum to try to find someone who will say that it is acceptable to install tile over lino using some mega primer they bought at a box store on the advice of a box store salesman who was not, is not or ever will be educated in the tile trade. If this sounds harsh toward the big box stores, it is meant to be. You must take up existing lino before you set new tile. A 4" razor scraper usually does the job pretty quickly. |

Richie, where's the big bold red centered "remove the vinyl of long ago"
John, a typo in Erics first response made it seem like he was saying to tile over vinyl. It should have said No you dont [want to lay ceramic tiles on top of my vinyl]. Take RD's advice. But instead it read like, don't listen to Richie, just go for it without the semicolon separating to separate but related thoughts or a preiod making two separate statements.
Eric, in response to your typo, John was asking Grace to read deeper into the forum to learn the reasons why tile over vinyl is a bad idea, not to listen to the random tail light warranty giving arsewipe who pops up here now and then to say he does it all the time with no problem. |

Sorry I'm kinda out of it. My typo with the comma probably would have been enough. BTW have you seen the new HD ad on tv. Some schmuck showing a lady how to set glass mosaics with Mastic. He has mastic half way up his arms. And I'm out of work, go figure. I guess we'll all have plenty of tearouts to do in the future. Sorry again for my poetic rage. |

Thanks Bljack, I understand completely that either of the two gentlemen have enough sense not to tell someone to install CT over the vinyl I was all confused about the commas and semi colons. That is what I was kidding about with them. Thirdly I get kinda bent when people come on here and blurt out questions before trying the "self help" way of keywording or even reading deeper to find their answer. |
