I have a 50+ year old concrete pool, the wall of which are a foot thick. My neighbor tells me that a spring flood sometime around 1972 filled the pool with rocks and dirt and consequently pitted and scratched the surface especially around the upper rim. Five years ago, when we moved in, I spent half the summer sandblasting the pool. I took the paint off down the the concrete (no plaster) and use "100% solids" epoxy primer and paint on and it has held up very well. We are now looking to change the look of the whole area and 1x1 glass tile around the upper rim is what my wife wants to see among other things. I have read a number of the posts concerning pools and thin set mortars and some thing called an epoxy additive? I have used urethane adhesives for laying engineered flooring on concrete with great success and I if I am not mistaken, I understand they can handle wet area installations as they actually harden with moisture (area will be dry of course during install). Can anyone give me a first choice list of preferences for adhesives or thinset mortars, and whether or not I should sandblast off the epoxy paint in the cases of the various options?
