I have some ceramic tiles that I used thin set to put them on the wall about a year ago. I now had to tear the drywall out to replace it due to water damage. I removed the tiles from the wall with no problem but now I want to reuse the tile but they have the thin set on the backs of them and I dont know how to remove it so I can reuse the tile. So is there anyway besides grinding them down to get the thin set off? Please help!
Thanks in advance

I guess you didn't buy extra for repairs. You're lucky the tiles came off easily. Was this a "wet wall" of a shower or tub surround? If so, you shouldn't have used drywall.
The thin set can only be removed mechanically, so start grindin!

Rd,
I think Kelly is assuming the drywall got wet and fell apart in less than one year. Heck, it could deteriorate within days.
Although it may not have happened like that, drywall should not be used in wet or damp areas.

What amazes me is the lack of research as to how to even install a shower area. As I watch this trade deteriate, I become speechless.

I belive the problem is trying to save money and short cutting things because you belive it will still be OK. There is still quality people out there as in contractors or trades people. The problem is finding out who and where they are. People that stand for something rather than fall for anything. The tiles that are all ready used and you want to clean them up and reuse them just like a bandage going on a what you think is a kleen hand and does not stick well. Problems that can be avoided would be suck it up and get new ones and use the right products from start to finish [amtilestone.com]
