Just had new tile put in my shower and the installer has made a mess. The saw blade must have been dull because the edges inside the shower are jagged and rough. The grout lines are also uneven and to top the cake. He used two different colors of grout. I can't afford to tear it out and start over, can I do anything to smooth the edges?

Hold the installer responsible for the finished product. The abuse of people calling themselves "tile installers" will end when this starts to happen. Until then, every jackleg with a pair of knee pads will be offering this service, butchering the install and running with the pay.

Who hired the guy and what was the price of the job? Sounds to me like it's a shower surround correct? Did he install 1/2" backerboard? Poly behind the backerboard? Did he use thinset? You get what you pay for these days, buyer beware of course. I think you hired a jackleg!

Love that word, I'm using it all the time for now ongringrin

Wonder 1,

I'm not saying YOU did, but this is the kind of thing that often happens when people hire who ever gives the cheapest labor price for their tile projects. They hire handymen, painters, drywall guys, roofers, cement men, the young man at the local tile stores, and the guy who saw a tile installation on TV once etc.

Some times when a situation like yours comes up here or at one of the other forums I'm on, I ask "was he the cheapest"? The answer is often "oh no, he was in the mid-range". I can't help think that none of the people interviewed were qualified because the HO was simply looking for cheap. They were all HACKS.

Can you tell us the type of area, tub or stall shower, tile, backer used, adhesive used, and as much info as possible. What qualifications does he have, licensed?

I just got a botched glass tile backsplash installation. I haven't paid the installer yet (who is the owner of the tile store where I purchased my tile so I trusted that he knew his stuff) and am wanting to also get a refund for the tiles as well since they will be ruined if I decide to have the job redone. Perhaps small claims court.
Did you pay for your installation?

I am tired of of hearing how some hack screwed up another tile job he should not have even been hired for. I work my butt off trying to do top quality work with bottom grade matterial. And still keep losing jobs to guys that arent fit to be called a helper.
