I'm installing ceramic tile on shower walls and need to put in a accent strip of tiles that approx. 6inches tall & are 6 different pieces. They are stone, glass mosiacs, pencils etc. The strip is 3 walls about 4 ft. each.
I think I recall someone here talking about hot glueing these pcs. On some type of material first then installing as a strip! What material would work best? Can someone offer some help with this project.

Thanks for your time

No one here with any experience or brains would have made that hot glue reccommendation.

Use thinset and KERDI.grin

When I was talking about hot glue I didn't mean glue the entire piece, just a drop that would hold it then some type mesh fabric to glue to, that thinset would penetrate similar to mosaics that are in foot sqaures, this is a kerdi shower but missing some of the pieces (on back order) so the wall tiles are finished, just waiting the rest to come in. This strip is made up of small glass pencils, one inch glass mosaics & 3/4 x 1&1/2 inch long stone pcs. Trying to put them in thinset & space them all at the same time would be extreme, in my way of thinking

Denny I've been known to do this frequently and I always use KERDI Mat with modified thinset. This way the piece can be constructed right-side-up.

Having recently done exactly what you are doing I set up a plywood work table. Screwed strips of lattice (in parallel) the width of the finished feature. In this case 6" X 48".

Then cut strips of KERDI Mat to suit the 6" X 48" need. Lay the KERDI strip between the lattice strips and go to tiling the on the KERDI. Remember to allow for your final grout lines when installing on the wall.

Once the piece has set over night, remove at least one lattice strip. You can now handle the flexible piece pretty effectively.

Apply thinset to the wall and judiciously place the finished piece to the wall.grin

Nothin' to it.

Funny how sometimes the answer is right in front of you but a person tends to over think it, Bud that's a good way after you said it & I rethunk it, I was going to set up a work table with strip of wood, but had I not read your comment I would have tried to use unmodified to set the tile on the kerdi, using modified makes more since & a little stronger to handle too.
Thanks for your help

The pieces can get a little fragile and should be handled with care but you'll do fine.grin
