I have TEC Invision adhesive - laying 12x12 tiles in
5' x 5' bath. JUST noticed label reads "for 8x8 tile
Max on floors". Is this critical? haven't started yet.

When you say "adhesive" do you mean ready to use pre-mixed adhesive? The rule here (from the pros) is thinsets in powder form (that you mix at home) are the right choice for tile.

You might well have a mastic meant for walls. Not a quality choice.

Also, what will you be putting the tiles down on? A plywood subfloor perhaps.

Thanks, JimR. It IS a ready mixed product [see [techinvision.com] for specs] what I have IS the WRONG product. They evidently make a "universal" product for larger tiles. It is an acrylic latex.

Save yourself a lot of heartache and use dry powdered thinset mortar that you mix yourself. That stuff you are trying to use will almost never dry under the larger tiles. Chances are you won't even be able to safely get on it to grout it for weeks.grin

Most all of the premixed thinsets are proving to be junk and the other organic adhesives are also problematic for floor tiles.grin

Following advice found here I used 1 1/4 bags of VersaBond to both lay HardieBacker and tile in a 5'x9' bathroom and it worked great. You could easily do 5'x5' with one bag.
