I just started using the cheesecloth on my newly grouted tiles. The haze is coming up easily in a light dust that is getting on the grout. I tried vacuuming up the dust from the grout but its not getting all of it. I grouted about 3 hours ago. What can I do to get this light dust off my new grout? |

What about using a damp rag? |

Sounds easy enough! I figured I'd ask the experts first before making a bigger mess and I wasn't sure if it was dry enough after 3 hours to try a wet rag. |

When Bud said "damp" rag I bet he wasn't thinking anything close to "wet"! If you leave water on fresh grout I don't think it would be a good thing.

Thanks Jim. I wet the rag and rang it out as much as I could so it was only slightly damp. It seemed to take the white dust off but now only a few minutes later it seems its coming back. I used only distilled water when cleaning the tiles so I know its not minerals in my water. |

Went back and looked at my pictures of the my grouting process. I can post them if it helps. After my last clean up with the sponge I let the tiles sit for about 2 hours. After the 2 hours the grout was the correct light pewter color and the tiles had a white film/haze on them. I used a cheesecloth to easily remove the haze from the tiles but that haze got onto my grout. Now the grout is blotchy white and different shades of grey. When I dab it with a wet towel it goes back to the correct grey color but dries white again. After reading back on some old posts I'm thinking I need to use a 50% vinegar/50% water solution on the grout. Is this correct? How long should I wait, just grouted this afternoon? Thanks! |

HOLD ON! Give it at least seventy-two hours before you do anything else. No fans either. |

Thanks Bud. It's a good thing I'm going away for a few days, it will keep me from trying different concotions on the grout! |

So I've waited at least 72 hours and the white haze that I wiped off the tiles with the cheesecloth is still on the grout. It made the grout white and blotchy instead of the light pewter it was before I used the dry cheesecloth. When I dab the grout with a damp towel it turns the color it's supposed to be but then dried white again. What should I try next? THanks! |

Scrub the floor with Murphy's Oil Soap, rinse well. |

If you PEE on the floor it worked. You have to eat asparagus for days and not drink much water so the PEE smells like skid-row. Then you spread it on the floor. Just kidding. Dont do that.
HA. We actually have the same problem. Have not solved this stupid grout problem.
We tried VINEGAR but that only made matters worse. But the tile we have is very sensitive.
Then we did all the products but it didn't worked.
Our grout is RED and was PERFECT until the stupid "Grout & Sealer Professionals" came to finish off the $20k floor for only $900 bucks. They ended up buffing HUGE craters in our floor and we had to get the Tile Company to replace all 30 destroyed tiles. Most of the tiles still intact have distress on the surface.
Now we when we put water on the RED grout it turns back to normal but then dries chalky again.
Sounds like some bad products, bad manufacturers, bad service people who don't know what they are doing. |
