The floor is 2x6 T&G on 4X8 beams, 32in OC, (11.5) ft span.

I am planning mosaic tile on 1/4in Hardibacker. I want a durable, trouble free result, but want to keep the floor thickness as thin as practical. Can I achieve this without another layer between the Hardibacker and the T&G? If thickness were not an issue, I would put down 23/32in Advantech that I have on hand.

Any suggestions?

Won't work.

Not wise to put only tilebacker over that type of dimensional lumber. You need the plywood and I would suggest 3/4" ply, then the Hardie.grin Even then, that type of structure is iffy for tile, especially mosaics.

How about a nice laminate flooring?grin

1. 32 inches is correct. This is a loft in a log home.

2. Had not considered laminate. I tend to think tile in the bath for water containment. I guess I could stay rustic and keep the T&G as the finish floor like the rest of the loft.
