I started tiling an 88 sf screened porch yesterday, 3 concrete walls and one screened. Well, this townhouse has no gutters and we had a torrential downpour today and half of the floor is SOAKED. I had laid all of the whole pieces of tile, and I had to stop because I need to get a wet saw instead of the stupid tile cutter. Needless to say, I have tile on thinset that was cured for almost 24 hours, and now, the water soaked into the spaces between the tile, and the tiles have soaked up the water and are discolored around the edges. Actually almost all of each tile is soaked from within. Will this correct as it dries or do I need to rip all of it up and put new tile down? We have a hurricane/tropical storm coming this weekend, so if I have to rip it up, I will wait until after, otherwise, I need to get this done and sealed BY Saturday. (Today is monday). What should I do?

What kind of tile did you use that has become soaked - that's basically impossible if you used ceramic tile.

The thinset shouldn't be a major issue either, just let it all dry out and see what happens. Actually the water would be good for the whole process.

You won't be sealing anything come this Saturday tho. EVERYTHING must be totally dry before applying any sealer.grin

Yeah, it is ceramic tile, a very inexpensive kind. I am hoping it dries out in time for me to grout it before the storm. As long as it's grouted, I know I can wait until after the storm to seal it. I just don't wand it to be ruined.

Thanks!grin

It isn't going to be ruined with a little water, you'll be fine I'm sure.grin

There is no such thing as a "little water" when it comes to South Florida rain. It dried out, so it seems, just trying to get it at least grouted by the weekend. Thanks!

What do you have for a substrate under the tile and why with all the rain are you setting this now?, you should be sure there is no chance of rain for at least 24 to 48 hrs. If setting outdoors.

What type of tile is it, shouldn't discolor them.
