I am considering using epoxy grout. I heard that the stuff is very easy to clean and won't stain like common sanded and nonsanded grouts. The only drawback is installing it can be tough. Is this all true. One of the main reasons why I am considering epoxy grout is because I want a light grout and as everybody here knows light grouts will soon get darker cause of dirt lodging in the grout. Is this problem solved with epoxy grout because it is so easy to clean? Grout joints will be a small 1/16". Thanks

A 100% epoxy solids grout is difficult to work with. When you complete a 100% solids expoxy job you throw all the tools used away.

A modified epoxy grout is much easier to work with. It spreads very easy and cleans up easier then standard grout.

Spectralock Pro is suggested. There is a quality difference between spectralock pro and spectralock grout. Pro version is a more durable product with a added part.

Lowes sells basic spectralock not pro.

If using spectralock pro grout use softscrub with bleach and part "C" for cleanup of missed areas.

If using standard spectralock use vinegar and water for cleanup.

To the best of my knowledge there is no formulation difference in the SpectraLOCK mini units Lowe's sells and the SpectraLOCK Pro full units that I use. The Pro include two packets for the wash/rinse part. I have used both and I can tell no difference.grin

On a glazed porcelain tile SpectraLOCK is actually easier to work with than a normal sanded grout. Follow the time limits.

The spectralock Pro that I buy has a part C. Standard spectralock doesnt have part C, just A&B.

Part C is the sand. grin When I go to Lowe's, I have to buy the small part A/B pail and a small box of part C sand. What they stock are the smaller 1/4 units. Same basic grout but you have to use a vinegar wash/rinse solution instead of the rinse packets contained in the Pro pail.

Jack, I forgot about the 1/16" joint.grin You can leave out a little part C sand if necessary for very small grout joints.

Tileinstaller, I stand corrected. I read the literature on SpectraLOCK Pro this morning and it states that the Pro version is "new and improved".

I honestly can't tell one iota of difference between the two products except for the included rinse packets.

Sorry on my last post I was somewhat buzzed. The difference between Pro and basic is ANTI SLUMP. Pro has antislump. Remember the old anti slump flakes we used in 100% solids epoxy?

Kevin Mahoney (tech sales laticrete) wouldn't be happy if he knew I posted any sort of misinformation concerning laticrete products. My apologies.

For cleanup soft soap with bleach is acceptable for stubborn areas. I have yet to see any stubborn areas with spectralock. I am about to do 600 ft travertine with spectralock and I dont see any problem with doing so grin

Yes, I have used spectralock on travertine and tumbled marble grin I would use it and recommend it on any tile product. Standard grout techniques might NOT be tolerable depending upon the tile being used.

I have used SpectraLOCK on porcelain, tumbled marble and gauged slate, no travertine yet.grin Don't try to get by with just one or two sponges, it takes several sponges depending on the square footage.

When the sponge starts to load up, toss it.

Recently saw this link. I talked to the rep a few months ago early (2008) and he said that the "improved pro version was the same as the Lowe's version" but there may be some lag time for the older stock to sell. By now it will be the same version. The pro pack contains their prapritory cleaner pack.
