What is the easiest way to remove Hardibacker? It was put up with 1 1/2inch nails. The majority of it is covered in thinset.

Removing the stuff is an entirely different story from installing it. The stuff is a pain to remove. You're talkin' walls here right?
Rip it out anyway you can, then buy yourself a case of beer cause the nails are going to take a while.

After pulling off the tile, repeatedly smash the backerboard with a hammer. This somehow disrupts the layers and even when placed down with thinset as the directions say, it comes up much easier with a crowbar.
